International Commission of Jurists elects former SC Justice Azcuna as commissioner
A former associate justice of the Supreme Court has been elected a commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists, a Geneva-based human rights organization.
Presidential Spokesperson made the announcement on Saturday, saying lawyer Adolf Azcuna, who was a Supreme Court Justice from 2002 to 2009, "brings his wealth of experience and wisdom to the ICJ."
The ICJ is composed of 60 eminent judges and lawyers from all regions of the world, the Palace said.
"We are confident that ICJ will benefit from his long years as a jurist and as a trainor of judges," the Palace said of Azcuna, who has been chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy since 2009.
Azcuna, the first Filipino commissioner of the ICJ, will serve a five-year term.
"We offer our warmest congratulations to Justice Azcuna, who is a shining example of Filipino excellence in the field of law," Lacierda said. — JDS, GMA News
