UAE court upholds death sentence on Indonesian maid who tried to frame Pinay nanny
A United Arab Emirates court this week upheld the death sentence on an Indonesian maid who killed a four-month-old infant and tried to pin the blame on her Filipina co-worker.
The appellate court rendered the decision on Wednesday, according to a report posted on UAE news site Gulf News late Thursday.
Initially, the Indonesian maid was found guilty by the Criminal Court of First Instance. The court of appeals reviewed her verdict.
But a court-assigned lawyer allegedly did not take his job seriously, and the case was referred to a second court of appeals.
Court records showed the maid killed the child, a ward of the Filipina, out of jealousy for her Filipina nanny last year.
Home security cameras caught the Indonesian taking the child out of her crib and returning her there four minutes later.
The maid reportedly bashed the child’s head against a wooden table.
The baby's parents insisted on the maximum punishment and rejected proposals for leniency. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
