Pinoy ex-drummer joins world beatbox contest in Germany

Xam Peñalba was a drummer before he relayed his percussive talents into beatboxing. Now, he will test his beatboxing skills in the Beatbox World Championship in Germany on Friday and Saturday.

"Abangan niyo, itong gagawin ko. Hindi niyo pa naririning. Matutuwa kayo. Original lahat tapos malakas," Peñalba told GMA News TV's "Balitanghali" on Friday.

Peñalba said he decided to go into beatboxing because it was less stressful than hitting the drums.

"Pinili ko ang beatboxing kasi mahilig ako sa music... Nakakapagod kasing mag-drums... mas cool (at) mas marami kang nae-entertain na tao," he explained.

His foray into beatboxing was first featured in a series of homemade videos. The need to distinguish himself from international performers eventually led to him finding a unique way of performing his art.

"Iniiwasan kong maging katunog nila. Gusto ko kasi kapag nagbe-beatbox ako, maalala nila (ako)," Peñalba said.

The Filipino's performance can be streamed at the Beatbox World Championship's website at the scheduled times. -Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
