Pakistani faces UAE court for allegedly raping Pinay; victim tests positive for HIV
A Pakistani driver faced a United Arab Emirates court on Wednesday over allegations he kidnapped and raped a Filipina secretary last December.
The Filipina, 24, tested positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) after the incident, according to a report on UAE news site Gulf News.
But the Pakistani, 23, pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday. “No, I did not kidnap or rape her,” he told presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.
The court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes in August, the Gulf News report said.
Prosecutors accused the Pakistani of luring the victim into his car when he offered her a ride to a mall in Deira.
However, he supposedly drove instead to a deserted area in Al Ghusais and raped the woman, then stole her belongings.
Medical examinations after the incident indicated the woman had HIV.
In their charge sheet, prosecutors said the Pakistani took the woman to Al Ghusais Industrial Area and raped her in the back seat of his vehicle.
He then allegedly stole her Dh500 and make up set, phones and personal documents.
The victim, who works for a company that promotes products online, told prosecutors she received an SMS from the suspect who asked to meet her at Dubai Financial Centre.
"When he arrived by car, he offered to discuss business in his vehicle. He drove while discussing business until he reached Al Ghusais and suddenly parked the car. He asked me to remain silent when I asked him why he had stopped. Then he pushed me to the rear seat where he had forced sex with me. He kept his hand on my mouth to prevent me from shouting while he raped me without protection," she said.
She added he then asked her to put her clothes on and to move to the front seat.
"I stepped out of the car and when I tried to open the front passenger door to sit, he tried to move. I threw myself quickly into the car and asked him to give me back my purse. He tried to take it back but I clutched it and hurt his shoulder while trying to prevent him from keeping the purse … then he pushed me out of the car,” she added.
A police corporal told prosecutors the Pakistani was arrested after the secretary provided them with his contact number.
But he said the Pakistani insisted he had consensual sex with the victim.
He added the Filipina's iPhone was also found in his possession.
"(H)e claimed that he took her purse because she had failed to repay him some money that he lent her earlier,” the police officer said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
