The group, which performed on Unang Hirit, won with their performance of a Flores de Mayo-inspired routine, the report said.
It was the first time the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe joined the World Cultural Dance Festival, which was held on June 29 in Jeonju, South Korea, and was participated in by nine other teams from Africa, China, India, Korea, Thailand and Ukraine.
UST Salinggawi vice president Daryll Romero told the Varsitarian that they had less than a month to prepare for the competition, which was won by Team USA and Finland.
“[The] preparation time may not be enough for such a big international competition and knowing na you’ll be competing with the other nine countries pero I guess kinaya naman and we survived,” Romero said.
Another Filipino team, Team Durian from Davao City, claimed the gold prize next to the U-S, followed by Finland with silver and then Salinggawi, with bronze.
