Dubai-based OFW tops US management accounting exam

A Filipino Certified Public Accountant (CPA) topped the United States Certified Management Accounting (CMA) exam, earning a gold medal for garnering the highest score in the exam held in February 2016.

Manny John Tan, a financial controller at a firm in Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority, told Filipino Times that he did not expect to top the exam, which he had prepared for with weekend classes.

A former honor student of the University of Santo Tomas, Tan ranked 9th in the 2005 Philippine CPA after graduating magna cum laude with a degree in accountancy.

Tan, an OFW of 11 years, advised fellow Filipinos to invest in improving their existing skills to improve their chances in getting promotions or landing a sought-after job.

He also advised CPA takers to prepare for their exams by focusing on topics they have difficulties with and answering practice questions within a time limit.

An article in the Varsitarian said the exam given by the Institute of Management Accountants is a rigorous two-part exam with a 50 percent global passing rate.
