225 distressed OFWs arriving from Saudi Arabia Saturday evening

Over 200 OFWs from the Middle East are expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday evening and will be welcomed by some government officials.

In in tweet on Saturday morning, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration chief Hans Leo Cacdac said that a total of 225 OFWs, including their children,  are coming home from Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  

The group is part of the several batches of undocumented OFWs who have availed of the Kingdom's amnesty program.

Thousands of OFWs, especially from Jeddah,  have been affected by Saudi Arabia's Saudization program that prefers Saudis for its labor market, and which resulted in thousands of foreign workers ending up jobless and becoming undocumented.

A report on dzBB early Saturday morning said that the batch of OFW repatriates is expected to arrive at 8 p.m. at the NAIA Terminal 1.

Some officials from  OWWA, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Foreign Affairs will meet the OFWs at the airport. —LBG, GMA News
