Pinoy student excels at Stanford University

A Filipino student from De La Salle University (DLSU) graduated with distinction from Stanford University's inaugural Science, Technology, and Medicine Summer Program this term.

Patricia Margaret Victoria, a BS Psychology student, was the only Filipino among the 30 applicants accepted from a pool of 1,000 to Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institute's program.

Victoria underwent the intensive two-week program that covered science, technology, and medicine through lectures, actual medical simulations, and internships within the university's operating rooms.

She and students from the United States, Turkey, Hong Kong, and China were directly instructed by mentors from Stanford University, Harvard University, New York University, and the University of Colorado while working on research projects.

With the research work entitled “Effects of Music Pain Perception and Tolerance”, Victoria's work was deemed unique as it tackled music in relation to psychology and went "above and beyond" what was required.

“She received distinction on her project as she went above and beyond. She was wonderful and has a bright future ahead of her," Salima Hirji, program manager of the Science, Technology, and Medicine Summer Program, said of Victoria. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
