Poem: My father's smile

Hello... My name is Alvin Perez. I reside in my grandparents house in Tondo, Manila. I recently visited your site and I saw the Kwentong Kapuso section. You see, my parents are both abroad. My dad visited us in December 2004, but only for a month. That was the first time we saw each other after 17 years. Next year, he will be coming back for good so I'm pretty excited. I really, really love my dad. I idolize him. He is the perfect father. By the way, he'll be celebrating his 53rd birthday on the 3rd of November. And for that, I would like to share a poem I wrote for him back in 2004. This is sort of my gift to him although I don't know if he can see this. Anyways, I would like to show the world how much I love my dad and how excited I am to be with him again soon. Thank you and God bless. MY FATHER’S SMILE “It took me seventeen long years Before I got the chance to see The man I always have looked up to; I wished someday I would be Those seventeen years of loneliness Brought forth by some circumstance Was worth the wait the very second, his round face I had a glance. “I cried tears of joy when I saw him… The very man who gave me life When he put his hand over my head, He’d have ended all my strife Words can’t say how much I love him; How I’m proud to be his son It is him I do look up to When my faith seemed to have been gone. “Being his son is much my privilege; Yes, an honor being one All the love that he has shown me has Shone brighter than the sun For me life would be rewarding If I can only make him proud I would ask the Lord to bless him, Much more than what is allowed Yes, a month spent here is not enough, But I’d take that anytime If for one month I’d be with him, I will make most of that time When he leaves again, I’ll miss him, 'coz two years may take a while So I’ll take my time just looking, Glancing at my father’s smile."
