DOLE bans deployment of OFWs to Libya

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is banning the deployment of new workers to Libya after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised alert level three in the area, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello has announced.

According to a report in News TV Live on Thursday, the alarm was raised after several overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were reported kidnapped.

A South Korean, along with three Filipino engineers, were kidnapped by armed men off a water project site in western Libya on July 6.

Deployment bans are automatically enacted once the the alarm level reaches three, the report added.

Meanwhile, the ban on the deployment of OFWs in Micronesia has been lifted.

The deployment ban was enacted after Filipino nurses reported that they were not being paid their wages.

DOLE is currently verifying the complaints. —Jessica Bartolome/NB, GMA News
