Back-breaking work in the US for Ilongo rich kid

Kwentong Kapuso Dear Editor: Ako po si Nino Caram. Naka-base ako sa Dana Point, California, USA. I want to share my own story of hardship, patience, willingness and fulfillment here in the US. I started my life here as a security guard in an elderly facility, earning $7.50 per hour. I worked the nightshifts which is 10pm until 7am. I summoned the cold winter nights of America, having to guard over 1000 elderly people and guard a building as big as a mall. I was desperate to work because I was getting lonely and bored staying in the house all day. I risked my life as a guard knowing that I don't have such experience of a security officer. Considering also that I am just 19 years old. I realized that $7.50 is not worth risking my life for. So, I decided to be a caregiver. I started in an Assisted Living Facility here in California. I used to take care of 15 patients by myself at night time: giving showers, changing diapers, dealing with the unpredictable mind and most of all, showing care and love to them. There was one patient who destroyed my life as a young man. He was too heavy and so to cut the long story short, I broke my back. I feel pain everyday, I feel anger everyday, thinking why am I here breaking my back when I can live a peaceful life in the Philippines. Let me share my own story back when I was still in the Philippines. I'm from Iloilo City. I am from a well-known family. I was the grandson of the most prominent doctor in Iloilo. To cut it short, I was a rich kid in Iloilo City but not as a happy rich kid. I came from a broken family. My mom married here in the US that is why I had to move here. By the way, I did not see my mom for 10 years. I grew up without a mom. It's so hard considering that I am a mama's boy. Well, after a few years my dad married my teacher. Interesting, Right? THAT'S LIFE. Thank God, I'll be a nurse soon. Well I'm so tired right now. I just got from a 20-hour job. I'll tell you more if you'll be interested with my story.
