DMW: 20,000 factory jobs in Taiwan for Pinoys a possibility
Taiwan could employ around 20,000 Filipino factory workers before the end of the year, according to the Department of Migrant Workers in Lei Alviz’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday.
DMW Secretary Susan Ople earlier said that certain companies in Singapore are also already looking into hiring more Filipinos.
“The good news is that Facebook Singapore is actually hiring Filipino workers. For the first time, Facebook has requested for accreditation as an employer which speaks a lot about the excellence of our Filipino IT professionals. And Grab Singapore, another multi-national brand, is also keen on hiring from us,” Ople said in Jakarta, where she is part of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s entourage on his first official overseas visit.
Singapore's Ministry of Health has also reached out to the Philippine government for more healthcare workers, Ople added.
“The MOH has reached out to us and has expressed their desire to explore ways of recruiting or hiring more of our health workers for employment in Singapore. Through a possibly—hindi pa kasi sarado yung talks and yung pipirmahan namin na document [our talks have not concluded and we have yet to sign documents]—but possibly through a government-to-government arrangement,” she said.
Filipino professionals working in the fields of information technology (IT) and healthcare are also in demand in Germany and Singapore.
At least 600 nurses, meanwhile, are needed in Germany for their hospitals and elderly care centers. The DMW started accepting applications for employment opportunity, the report said. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
