NBI conducts autopsy on slain OFW Jullebee Ranara

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has conducted an autopsy on the remains of slain overseas Filipino worker Jullebee Ranara, whose burned body was found in a desert following alleged abuse by her employer's son in Kuwait.

The NBI forensic team arrived at a funeral home in Bacoor, Cavite, past 10 a.m. on Saturday to conduct an autopsy on Ranara's remains, according to a report by John Consulta on "24 Oras Weekend."

NBI experts examined Ranara's external and internal injuries to determine the circumstances that led to her death.

Histopathology and general toxicology examinations of the tissue samples are expected to be completed in two weeks.

It was her family that had requested that her remains be again autopsied.

Ranara's remains arrived from Kuwait on Friday night.

"It was a very tearful reunion. The family opted not to physically see the state of Jullebee upon arrival. Their request was for private time, and this was granted," Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople said.

Meanwhile, DMW Undersecretary Hans Cacdac said Kuwait’s ambassador to the Philippines had written a letter to the family of Ranara assuring them that the investigation is ongoing, and that justice will be delivered.

Ople earlier said the DMW is eyeing the resumption of bilateral labor talks with the Kuwaiti government before the start of Ramadan in March. —Jamil Santos/VBL, GMA Integrated News
