Body of slain Filipina caregiver in Jordan arrives in PH

The plane carrying the body of a slain Filipina household service worker in Jordan arrived in the Philippines on Saturday afternoon, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Present at the arrival of the remains of Mary Grace Santos were her mother and officials from the DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

From Manila, her remains were brought to her hometown, Macabebe, Pampanga.

Santos reportedly went missing on October 11, and a day later she was found dead in the basement of the building where she worked in Amman, Jordan.

According to the autopsy report, Santos died of strangulation.

The suspect, a teenager who was identified as the son of the building’s caretaker, confessed to the crime and is now in the custody of Jordanian police.

''The case has been documented and elevated for court proceedings,'' DMW said in a statement, adding it is ''committing resources'' to the legal battle.

The DMW and OWWA said they would facilitate the processing of benefits for Santos' family.  —VBL, GMA Integrated News
