Public warned vs unauthorized recruiters for jobs in Israel, other countries

The Philippine Embassy in Israel has issued a warning for Filipinos to be vigilant against job openings offered by unauthorized recruiters.

In an advisory released on Friday, the embassy in Tel Aviv said the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) must first approve the recruiter, recruitment agency and employment contract before a Filipino worker can be hired overseas.

It added that Filipino workers are only allowed to be dispatched to a country that is certified to be safe and is protecting the rights of its workers.

“Sakop ng mga batas at panuntunang ito ang mga tao o kumpanya na kasalukuyang nanghihikayat ng mga Pilipino sa Israel bilang manggagawa patungo sa U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, at iba pang destinasyon,” the embassy said.

(Recruiters and companies enticing Filipino workers in Israel to work in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe are also covered by the law and this mandate.)

Filipinos were also urged to inform the embassy of unauthorized recruiters so that authorities may investigate and sanction them if proven to have violated the law.

Under RA 10022 or the act amending the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act, illegal recruiters shall be imprisoned for up to 20 years and be fined up to P2 million.—RF, GMA Integrated News
