The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration confirmed on Friday that arrangements for the expedited repatriation of the 27 seafarers on board the MV Transworld Navigator have been made.
According to a statement, OWWA communicated with the seafarers’ relatives on the new updates and necessary support for the repatriates.
“Sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., agad na kumilos ang DFA, DMW, at OWWA upang mabilis ang pagpapabalik sa bansa ng 27 seafarers,” read the statement.
(Under the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the DFA, DMW, and OWWA acted immediately to expedite the repatriation of the 27 seafarers.)
The 27 seafarers were among the crew on board the MV Transworld Navigator, which was attacked by Houthi rebels on Saturday.
According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, the attack by the Houthis failed to immobilize the ship and allowed the seafarers to sail to a safe port. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
