No Pinoy casualties reported in Southern Taiwan earthquake
No Filipinos were reported hurt so far following the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Southern Taiwan early Tuesday morning.
“Based on the latest reports from our three offices in Taiwan, everyone is safe. We will, however, continue to monitor,” said Cheloy Garafil, Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) chairperson.
The earthquake occurred near a mountainous, rural area near Chiay City, with reports of minor damage.
In an interview on "Unang Balita," Marshey, an Overseas Filipino Worker, said they evacuated the factory they were working in following the earthquake.
He added that everyone was safe, including 300 Filipino factory workers.
“Salamat sa Diyos, safe naman po kami lahat (Thank God, we’re all safe.),” Marshey said.
“Sa magulang ko sa Mindanao, huwag kayong mag alala at okay na okay po ako dito sa Taiwan. Para sa inyo itong lahat,” the OFW added.
(To my parents in Mindanao, do not worry because I’m safe in Taiwan. This is all for you.)
Marshey also said the Taiwanese government had stationed an ambulance outside the factory and has been coordinating with them after the quake. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
