BI warns of POGO-like scam hubs recruiting Pinoys

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has issued a warning against overseas scam hubs that operate similarly to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), targeting aspiring overseas Filipino workers for recruitment and exploitation.

In a statement on Friday, the BI said these scam hubs lure victims through social media with promises of high-paying customer service jobs abroad.

Once recruited, victims are forced to participate in fraudulent online schemes.

“In 2024 alone, we intercepted 118 Filipinos linked to online scamming schemes. This year, we are seeing a more brazen approach, with traffickers constantly shifting their tactics,” said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.

“Our immigration officers remain on high alert, but we urge Filipinos to stay vigilant and verify job offers through legitimate government channels before traveling abroad.”

Viado emphasized that while the Philippine government continues efforts to protect workers, the public must also exercise caution.

“Be cautious and safeguard yourself from these scams,” he urged.
