OFW Center to open in Mactan-Cebu Airport
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has joined forces with Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC) and Cebu Pacific to establish an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Center at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
This initiative aims to provide vital services and assistance to OFWs and their families traveling through Cebu.
“The OFW Center at Cebu Airport is more than just a facility—it represents our commitment to the welfare of our modern-day heroes. It will be a dedicated space where OFWs and their families can receive support, guidance, and essential services,” said Secretary Cacdac.
The center will serve as a one-stop service hub, offering streamlined access to key DMW services. These include the verification of pre-departure documents such as the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) and exit clearance, as well as immediate assistance for concerns before departure and upon arrival.
The project is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, with construction set to begin this month. As part of the agreement, Cebu Pacific will partially fund the project, while ACAC will provide a six-square-meter space in Terminal 2 free of charge for five years.
Operations are expected to commence in the second quarter of the year.
“We are committed to ensuring an excellent passenger experience. Through our Cebu Balik program and this partnership, we will adapt to growing demands and expand the facility as needed,” said MCIAA General Manager and CEO Julius G. Neri.
MCIA, one of the busiest airports in the Philippines, serves as a key gateway to Central Visayas, with 21 airlines operating flights to 14 international destinations. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
