Three Filipinos who were sentenced in Myanmar for illegal entry were pardoned by its government and repatriated to the Philippines, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon said.

The said Filipinos were pardoned on humanitarian grounds as they were victims of human trafficking, it added.

They were pardoned after Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Migration Affairs Eduardo de Vega and Philippine Embassy officials made urgent representations in March 2025 for the safe and orderly repatriation of victims of human trafficking.

The repatriation of the three Filipinos was done with the assistance of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.

"The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar reiterates its strong advice to Filipinos against entertaining job offers for employment abroad without verifying the job orders with the Department of Migrant Workers before leaving the Philippines," the embassy said in a statement on Friday.

"Violations of immigration law in Myanmar for illegal entry, improper visa, and commission of illegal acts are strongly dealt with," it added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
