Agency ensures aid to Pinoy seafarers in ship that sank off Indian coast

The manning agency of the Filipino crewmen who were rescued from a container ship that sank off the Indian coast assured Monday it will send help to the seafarers.

In a report from the manning agency provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs, 20 of the 24 crew members are Filipinos.

“We are coordinating to ensure that the seafarers receive appropriate medical attention and are provided with essential clothing and humanitarian support as needed, considering they may have disembarked without personal effects,” the manning agency said.

“The Indian Coast Guard assisted 12 Pinoys, while the passing merchant vessel MV Han Yi rescued 8 Pinoys,” it added.

On Sunday, a Liberian-flagged container ship with hazardous cargo sank off the coast of Kerala in the southern part of India.

All 24 crew members were rescued.

All are now under the custody of Indian authorities for further evaluation and processing. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
