Some OFWs affected by flight cancellations worried about jobs, not missiles
Some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by flight cancellations to the Middle East appear to be more concerned about their postponed return to their jobs abroad than the threat brought by the exchange of missiles.
According to Mark Salazar’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” seven flights were cancelled today, of which four were from Doha, Qatar; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates to the Philippines, and three flights from Manila to Doha, Riyadh, and Dubai.
OFWs like Abegail and Susana were affected by the cancelled flights.
Susana said she would stay in an accommodation and wait for an update since she could not go back to Nueva Ecija because she did not have enough money.
Meanwhile, Abegail said that as much as she was worried about her safety, she was more concerned about losing her job abroad since she needed to provide for her family.
There were no missile attacks in Saudi Arabia, but many airlines cancelled their flights due to the threat of GPS interference.
Another OFW, Gia, said she could accept having to worry about her safety abroad because there were not enough opportunities in the country.
Meanwhile, Edelyn said she would pray for an improved situation in the Middle East.
Iynie said that her employer understood the delay in her return.
“Nakausap ko naman yung company; wala naman daw magagawa kung cancel. Meron naman nang flight bukas kaso puno na kaya sa 29 na available flight,” Iynie said.
(I talked to my company, and they said we cannot do anything about it if flights are cancelled. There’s a flight tomorrow, but it’s fully booked. The next available flight is on June 29.) –Mariel Celine Serquiña/NB, GMA Integrated News
