PH Embassy in Iraq advises vs. travel to Sulaymaniyah in Kurdistan
The Philippine Embassy in Iraq has advised Filipino citizens against traveling to Sulaymaniyah in Kurdistan, Iraq.
The embassy issued the advisory "due to the prevailing security situation. If movement cannot be avoided, Filipinos already in Sulaymaniyah are advised to avoid public places, exercise extreme caution, monitor the news, and remain vigilant for their own safety and security."
According to the report posted by the Agence France Presse, three members of the security forces in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region were killed and 19 wounded during the arrest of an opposition figure on Friday, security officials said.
"Filipino Nationals are advised to follow any emergency instructions that may be given by the local government authorities as applicable and to contact the Embassy Hotline (+964 783 700 54 57) for Emergencies," the embassy said, adding that "Iraq remains at Alert Level 3 Status." — BAP, GMA Integrated News
