DMW confirms death of Filipino seafarer aboard cruise ship
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday confirmed the death of a Filipino crew member onboard the passenger cruise ship MV Arvia.
In a statement, the DMW said the seafarer’s cause of death is still under investigation. MV Arvia is operated by P&O Cruises.
“The licensed manning agency that deployed the seafarer reported that the circumstances surrounding the crew member’s death are still under investigation and that they are in ongoing coordination with the vessel owner to ensure a thorough and transparent process,” it said.
The DMW assured that it will extend all necessary support to the bereaved family of the Filipino seafarer.
“The DMW, along with the licensed manning agency, has already notified the family and continues to offer assistance and regular updates on every development of the case,” it added.
The DMW offered its deepest condolences to the seafarer’s loved ones and lamented the seafarer’s death as a loss to the maritime community.
“Our seafarers serve with dedication and bravery in international waters, and we honor their service, professionalism, and sacrifice,” it said.
The DMW added that it remains “committed to protecting the welfare, safety, and dignity of every Filipino worker abroad, especially during times of grief and hardship.” — JMA, GMA Integrated News
