DMW, Greece affirm safety of Filipino seafarers on Greek-flagged vessels

Discussions between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Greece assured the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers aboard Greek-owned vessels.

In a statement on Thursday, DMW and the Greek delegation reaffirmed their partnership by tackling bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and Greece with regards to issues concerning Filipino crew members.

“The Secretary and other DMW officials actively responded to concerns raised by the Greek delegates, including regional conflicts affecting the maritime industry, economic support for Filipino seafarers, and digitalization, among others,” read the statement.

The participants in the discussion were DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, several DMW assistant secretaries and undersecretaries, Greek Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Ioannis Pediotis and representatives from 43 licensed manning agencies and Greek principals.

“This engagement is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to the DMW to strengthen ties with foreign partners like Greece, particularly in sectors where overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have a strong presence,” the statement added. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
