Bangsamoro chief minister to OFWs in Middle East: Prioritize your safety

Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East to prioritize their safety following the attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.

“Sa gitna ng mga ulat ng tumitinding tensyon sa ilang bahagi ng rehiyon, nais kong ipaabot ang aking pag-aalala at pakikiisa sa bawat isa sa inyo,” he said.

(Amidst reports of intensifying tensions in several parts of the region, I wish to extend my concern and solidarity to each and every one of you.)

Macacua also called on OFWs to strictly follow official advisories issued by the Philippine embassies and consular offices.

“Mahigpit ko kayong hinihikayat na unahin ang inyong kaligtasan. Manatiling mapagmatyag, sundin ang lahat ng opisyal na abiso at travel advisories, at iwasan ang mga lugar na may banta sa seguridad,” he said.

(I strongly urge you to prioritize your safety. Remain vigilant, follow all official notices and travel advisories, and avoid areas where there are security threats.)

He also reminded Filipinos in the Middle East to secure important documents, maintain communication with families, and coordinate with authorities when necessary.

He assured that the Bangsamoro Government is monitoring developments abroad and is coordinating with the national government.

Over the weekend, the US and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran on Saturday, escalating tensions in the region.

The Israeli military said Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israel.

A Filipino caregiver was confirmed dead in the airstrikes while another OFW was injured in an explosion at a Kuwaiti airport.

Iran and Israel remain at Alert Level 2, which means Filipinos there are advised to shelter in place and avoid high-risk areas, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
