Filipina caregiver's name inscribed on Tel Aviv's memorial for war, terrorism victims

The name of the Filipina caregiver Mary Ann de Vera, who was killed in a missile attack on February 28, 2026 in Israel, is immoratlized in a memorial in Tel Aviv, the Philippine Embassy in Israel announced.

The De Vera's name is inscribed in the memorial for Tel Aviv City residents who lost their live in war and terrorism.

"Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai invited Ambassador Aileen Mendiola to lay a wreath on behalf of the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in Israel," the embassy said in a statement.

"At 8:00 in the evening of 20 April, mournful sirens sounded across Israel to mark the beginning of Yom Hazikaron, the national day of remembrance for fallen soldiers and civilians who perished in hostilities. May their memories be blessings forever."

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. broke the sad news inn a video message posted on his Facebook account that De Vera was killed amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East last March 1, 2026.

“Siya po ay isang caregiver sa Israel na tinutulungan ang kanyang alaga para dalhin sa bomb shelter ngunit hindi na po nakaabot sa bomb shelter at inabutan na sila bago sila nakarating,” the President said.

(She was a caregiver in Israel who was helping her employer get to a bomb shelter, but they were unable to reach the bomb shelter in time.) 

De Vera, 32 years old, hailed from Basista in Pangasinan and had been working in Israel since 2019. — BAP, GMA News
