PH Embassy: 1,700 OFWs served at gov't caravans in Cayman Islands, Bahamas

More than 1,700 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were served at the onsite government services caravan recently held by the Migrant Workers Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA) in Washington, D.C.

According to a statement Tuesday by the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, the caravan held on March 27 to April 2 provided services from key Philippine government agencies such as the OWWA, Social Security System (SSS), and the Pag-IBIG fund.

Caravan activities were conducted at the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas.

The event resulted in contract verification of 623 OFWs, accreditation of two employers, and delivery of assistance for four OFWs through the DMW AKSYON Fund for medical, legal, and humanitarian needs.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,057 OFWs were enrolled to the OWWA membership, while 1,537 received their membership cards.

The SSS was able to assist 457 OFWs, while the Pag-IBIG fund provided guidance on housing loans, savings, and investment programs to 524 OFWs, the embassy said. — VDV, GMA News
