The 38 Filipino crew members aboard an Atlantic cruise ship, where three passengers reportedly died of hantavirus, are safe and uninfected, authorities said.

In a public briefing on Tuesday, Department of Health (DOH) spokesperson Undersecretary Albert Domingo confirmed that none of the Filipino crew tested positive for the virus, citing reports from the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Wala kaming naririnig [o] nababalitaan so far… In close coordination po tayo,” he said.

(We have not received any reports so far… We are in close coordination.)

The statement comes after three passengers on board the ship died from hantavirus infection, while three others remain infected.

Medics are currently working on evacuation plans to ensure the safety of around 150 passengers still on board the vessel.

Earlier, the DOH said there have been no recorded cases of hantavirus in the Philippines in 2026.—MCG, GMA News
