No Pinoys hurt after Strait of Hormuz attacks — Palace
Malacañang on Monday said no Filipino seafarers were hurt following Iran’s recent attacks on two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Citing the Department of Migrant Workers’s report to the President, Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said Iran attacked the container ship MV Ever Lovely as it was leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
“Walang nasaktan mula sa 21 Filipino crew, kabilang ang captain o kapitan ng vessel. Nanatiling seaworthy ang vessel at nagpatuloy ng biyahe,” she said in a press briefing.
(No one was injured among the 21 Filipino crew, including the captain of the vessel. The vessel remained seaworthy and continued its voyage.)
According to Castro, the vessel is expected to arrive in Singapore on July 5.
Meanwhile, she said that oil tanker MV Kiku was also attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. She said there were 19 Filipino crew onboard.
“Nananatiling seaworthy ang vessel at nagpatuloy sa biyahe. Walang nasaktan na 19 Filipino sailors na sakay nito,” she said.
(The vessel remains seaworthy and continues its voyage. None of the 19 Filipino sailors on board were injured.)
Castro said authorities are continuously monitoring the condition of the ship as well as the people on board.
As of posting time, Castro said 2,100 Filipino seafarers aboard 85 ships have left the Strait of Hormuz while 3,800 Filipino seafarers are onboard vessels in the Persian Gulf.
According to Axios, Iran and the United States agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Gulf and renew talks regarding their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could end tit-for-tat strikes that had threatened to unravel an interim peace agreement. —RF, GMA News
