Slain Pinay domestic helper in Kuwait was planning to quit job, return to PHL —OWWA

The Filipina domestic helper who was reportedly killed by her employer in Kuwait was already planning to quit her job and return to the Philippines this January before she met her tragic demise, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV aired on GMA News TV on Wednesday, OWWA Administrator Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the domestic helper's recruitment agency told him the overseas Filipino worker had been planning to go back home supposedly this month.

Cacdac said the domestic helper also had been having problems with her salary, as it was lower than what it should be.

"Nakausap ko rin 'yung parang stepmother niya, nagkukuwento rin na meron na sanang plano na siya ay umuwi at umalis doon sa employer," he added.

The 26-year-old slain domestic helper went to Kuwait with hopes of helping her family renovate their home in South Cotabato and to support the studies of her youngest sibling, Cacdac said.

She was deployed to Kuwait in July 2019, only about five months before she was reportedly killed.

Cacdac did not provide any details yet as to how the domestic helper was supposedly killed by her employer's wife, as Kuwaiti authorities are still conducting their investigation.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, nevertheless, will arrange for the transport of the domestic helper's remains back to the country.

"We will be coordinating and talking to the family in the next few days about any type of assistance aside from the entitlements, 'yung mga benefits and other forms of assistance. We will be coordinating with the family," Cacdac said.

"Merong death and burial benefits both from the government side and from the private insurance side. Kasi every OFW is insured bago siya umalis. And then livelihood, and then scholarship lalo na doon sa bunsong kapatid," he added.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has already issued a statement demanding justice for the slain domestic helper. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
