Pinay in Singapore gets 7 weeks in prison over fake diploma, grades

A Filipino woman on Tuesday was sentenced to seven weeks in prison in Singapore for falsifying her college records.

According to the country's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Noriza De Luna  submitted fake documents in her and her daughter's Permanent Residency applications in 2008.

De Luna was said to have submitted a diploma and transcript of records from the Centro Escolar University in Manila.

Verification showed she had no record of enrollment at the CEU while the diploma and transcript she had given did not originate from their office.

This led to her arrest in October 25, 2017. The case resurfaced due to ICA's internal investigations, according to the statement.

"ICA takes a very serious view of persons who provide false information or conceal material facts during their applications for any Singapore immigration facility," the ICA said in a statement.

"Any person who has made a false statement in their applications for immigration facilities will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law," it added.

According to the statement, individuals who made false claims may have their immigration facilities deprived or revoked under the Constitution and the Immigration Act.

Meanwhile, the status of the family members of those who have been convicted for an offense will also be reviewed by the ICA. —NB, GMA News
