Philippine Navy picks up stranded Pinoy tourists, face masks in India


The Philippine Navy on Wednesday docked in Kochi, India to repatriate stranded Filipino tourists and receive face masks donated by a Filipino who sources the items in India.

According to the Navy, BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) and the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS16) arrived in India on April 29 and stayed in the anchorage area after sailing from Oman.

Theywere welcomed at the port by the chief staff officer for operations of India's Southern Naval Command, Commodore Sanjay Nagar.

The vessels will bring home around 20 Filipino tourists who have been given medical certificates clearing them from the virus.

Despite this, they will be placed under isolation with 24-hour supervision by the onboard medical team.

LD602 and PS16 will also pick up 59 boxes or around 200,000  face masks from the one million donated by Paul Dantes of LegalZoc Co.

The vessels are expected to arrive in the country within the month of May. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
