50 more Filipinos abroad infected with COVID-19 –DFA


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday recorded 50 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total tally to 8,679.

The DFA also said total recoveries climbed to 5,201 after another Filipino recovered from the viral disease, while the death toll increased to 577 with 14 new fatalities.

To date, the Middle East/Africa remained to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad at 6,304 with 311 deaths and 3,810 recoveries.

Europe still followed with 1,015 infections, including 449 recoveries and 94 fatalities.

In the Americas, a total of 697 Filipinos were infected with the virus. Of the number, 168 have died, while 410 have recovered.

The Asia Pacific Region, meanwhile, has 663 cases with four fatalities and 532 recoveries.

“In this fight against an invisible enemy, the DFA personnel in our foreign service posts, who themselves are also exposed and some afflicted with this virus, remain committed to tirelessly attending to the needs of our people affected by this pandemic, whenever possible,” the DFA said. — DVM, GMA News
