One more Filipino crew of Gulf Livestock 1 found in life raft

A Filipino crew of the cattle ship that capsized in the East China Sea was found in a life raft, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Friday.

According to the DFA, the Filipino is “conscious and able to walk.”

The Japanese Coast Guard earlier said it was still searching for the more than 40 crew members who went missing on Wednesday after their ship Gulf Livestock 1 capsized in stormy weather.

It said that three vessels, four airplanes, and two divers were taking part in the search.

The ship, carrying 6,000 cattle, sent a distress call from the west of Amami Oshima Island in southwestern Japan on Wednesday due to Typhoon Maysak.

Filipino Sareno Edvarodo, a 45-year-old chief officer, was rescued on Wednesday night. The second crewman rescued earlier on Friday died after being pulled unconscious from the water.
