Four more Filipinos abroad get COVID-19; tally rises to 12,627


The number of overseas Filipinos infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 rose to 12,627 after the Department of Foreign Affairs announced four new infections on Sunday. 

Of this number, 8,127 have recovered while 866 succumbed to the respiratory illness. The remaining 3,634 patients are receiving treatment.

Data show that the Middle East/Africa region has the highest number of overseas Filipinos with COVID-19 at 7,626 with 4,668 recoveries and 553 deaths.

In the Asia Pacific region, 2,634 overseas Filipinos have contracted COVID-19, 1,815 of whom have recovered while 21 have died.

Europe has logged 1,586 Filipino COVID-19 cases, including 1,119 recoveries and 97 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Americas has the lowest number of COVID-positive Filipinos at 781 with 525 recoveries and 195 deaths.

Globally, COVID-19 has claimed over 1.6 million lives and infected more than 75 million people. —LBG, GMA News
