Pinoys abroad sick with COVID-19 reach 14,759 —DFA


The Department of Foreign Affairs on Thursday reported 80 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos overseas, bringing the total tally to 14,759.

According to the DFA, total recoveries also increased to 9,273 with 35 new recoveries, while nine new fatalities brought the death toll to 988.

So far, there are 4,498 active cases undergoing treatment.

The Middle East/Africa still recorded the highest number of COVID-19-positive Filipinos at 8,110, including 4,755 recoveries and 640 deaths.

The Asia Pacific Region followed with 2,870 cases with 2,042 recoveries and 21 fatalities.

In Europe, a total of 2,919 cases have been recorded. 125 of whom have died, while 1,894 have recovered.

Further, in the Americas, 860 Filipinos have been infected with the respiratory illness. 582 of whom have recovered, while 202 have died.

“The DFA shall continue to keep track of the status of overseas Filipinos, and facilitate repatriations, whenever possible,” the department said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
