Filipino killed in California shooting wanted to bring children to Disneyland

Paul Megia, 42-year-old Filipino American, was one of those who were killed in a fatal shooting in a light-rail yard for commuter trains of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in San Jose, California.

Prior to his death, Paul, an assistant superintendent at VTA, made plans to spend time with his kids in Disneyland over Memorial Day. He was survived by his three biological children, Nathan, 22; Gavin, 13; and Avery, 10 as well as his stepson,  Kyle, 10.

Luci, Paul's sister, told foreign media People.com, that she had a conversation about these vacation plans.

"The night before this happened, he was so happy and excited," Luci said, describing how her talk with Paul went the night before the shooting incident.

Aside from this, Paul also planned to retire early at 55 and spend more time with his family.

After the tragedy, the Megia family launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds and support education of Paul's children.

Paul was a hero

According to reports, the gunman, who is also a VTA worker, went on a rampage and shot dead his eight co-workers before killing himself.

When Paul learned that there was an active shooter in their working area, he immediately alarmed his co-workers to keep them safe.

"He didn't have to do that. But he did," said Luci.

"He always just knew how to take charge and take control of the situation," she added.

Luci said her "brother was a hero, and saved a lot of lives" to flag his co-workers.
