No Filipino hurt in Beirut blast —Philippine Embassy in Lebanon

The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon said no Filipino was hurt during a shooting incident in Beirut on Thursday.

"The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon reports that no Filipino was hurt in the recent street violence that rocked Beirut yesterday. The Embassy continues to monitor the developing situation," it said in an advisory.

Six Shi'ites died on Thursday in Beirut during an attack on Hezbollah supporters who were gathering to demand the removal of the judge investigating the explosion that occurred in the city's port last year, according to a Reuters report.

The incident was considered the deadliest civil violence in Beirut since 2008.

"The Embassy further reminds the public that Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) remains to be observed in Lebanon in view of the current political-economic situation, and urges the Filipino community to be vigilant and avoid non-essential travels and crowded areas at this time," the advisory read.

Filipinos who need to contact the embassy may do so via +961 70858086 and beirut.pe@dfa.gov.ph, it added. —KG, GMA News
