Pinoy cyclist killed in Taiwan hit and run incident —report

A Filipino cyclist on his way to a cycling event was killed in a hit and run incident Sunday in Taiwan, according to a media report.

Taiwan's Central News Agency did not identify the victim but said the 32-year-old Filipino was on his way to Bali District, New Taipei City when he was hit by a vehicle at 4:27 a.m., near Rui-Ping Elementary School.

Local police, the report said, is searching for the driver.

"According to the police, a car hit the victim from the back, but the driver then left the vehicle and fled the scene," the report said.

The victim was with two other Filipino cyclists when the incident happened.

Manila has no embassy in Taiwan, but maintains an economic and cultural office in capital Taipei.

Philippine officials there have yet to provide details on incident.

The victim, the report said, showed no vital signs when the police arrived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities are currently trying to contact the owner of the car for investigation, it added. —LBG, GMA News
