Cavite-based choir bags grand prize in France competition

A choir from Imus, Cavite, bagged top prizes in the 47th edition of the Florilège Vocal de Tours, an international choral competition in France, over the weekend.

The Imusicapella Chamber Choir won first prize in the Vocal Ensemble Category during the contest held last June 1 to 3.

The  group, which is based in the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, also won Best in Stage Performance and the audience prize.

In a statement, the choir said this was the first time a choir won in two out of the six European Grand Prix member competitions in a single year.

By winning the 39th International May Choir Competition in Varna, Bulgaria earlier this year, Imusicapella qualified to compete at the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in 2019.

Aside from France and Bulgaria, Imusicapella has also represented the Philippines competitions held in Switzerland, Germany, Poland, USA, and South Korea. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
