Pinoy students bag medals at HK int’l math olympiad

Dozens of Filipino students won trophies and medals at the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) 2019 held over the weekend.

Based on the competition results posted by the HKIMO-Philippines, the delegates from the Philippines brought home 47 gold, 81 silver, and 92 bronze medals.

The Filipino math whiz kids from various schools across the country also received nine special awards and over 50 merit awards.

According to Andrey Alonso, father of silver medalist Fernando Alonso III, around 500 Filipino students participated in different categories.

Among the other countries who joined were Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Australia, Cambodia, India, Vietnam and Malaysia. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
