Pinoy ‘social journalists’ bag top prize in ASEAN journalism contest

Two Filipinos won first prize in the ASEAN Youth Social Journalism Contest 2019 in Brunei Darussalam with their campaign “4Ps for Philippines,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

Camille Joyce M. Lisay and Joaquin Victor D. Tacla’s campaign helps raise awareness about the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Philippine government through social media platforms.

Top 20 aspiring “social journalists” from ASEAN joined a four-day social journalism workshop at the Perpustakaan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Library in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from September 16 -19 in 2019.

Opened to young and talented social journalists, the contest offers platform through media to promote fact-based and compelling messages showing the importance of reliable and transparent governance in ASEAN and its member states.

The contest was supported by the ASEAN Foundation and the ASEAN-USAID PROSPECT.

This is a joint project of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US State Department, with the additional support from Scoop, a multimedia platform for news, commentary, culture, and life in Brunei Darussalam, the DFA said. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
