Pinoys shine in 2021 APEC Photo Contest

Filipinos dominated the recent 2021 APEC Photo Contest as announced by New Zealand Minister for Trade and Export Growth Damien O’ Connor, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Froiland Rivera's "Online Learning" entry won the first prize in the competition, while fellow Filipino Roxanne Paraiso's "A Small Act is A Huge Help" placed second.

Robert Marrel Dela Vega's entry, "Pandemic: Education and innovation," meanwhile got the Popular Choice Award.

Citing the APEC Secretariat, the DFA said Rivera and Dela Vega's entry highlighted innovation and digitalization as a tool for recovery by capturing remote learning as lessons went virtual due to school closures.

Photo submissions delivered the creative interpretation of APEC 2021’s theme “Join, Work, Grow. Together” and priorities including:

  • Road to strengthening economic recovery,
  • Inclusive and sustainable recovery, and;
  • Innovation and a digitally enabled recovery

For the 10th year of the annual APEC Photo Contest, it received more than 1,200 photo entries from 16 different member economies, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. -- Sherylin Untalan/KBK, GMA News
