"Crocodile Odyssey": A Born to be Wild Special

Airing on August 12, 2009 Wednesday night, after Saksi On the outside, they may seem nothing more than brute and menacing creatures. With their sharp teeth, thick hides, and massive thrashing tails, crocodiles are hardly everyone’s favorite kind of wildlife. Perhaps because of this aversion to them, the number of crocs in the wild has been on the downtrend. In fact, the Philippine crocodile is one of the most endangered species in the world. Last week, fifty Philippine crocodiles were transported from a Palawan breeding center to Divilacan, Isabela for release. The Philippine crocodile is endemic or can only be found in the Philippines. Nowhere else in the world do these beings occur naturally and yet only about 100 of our crocodiles remain in the wild. It is feared that their species could die within our lifetime, if not enough efforts are made to ensure their protection. But Isabela presents a future for these wild ones. The release of fifty Philippine crocodiles into the wild already raises their numbers by fifty percent! Is there hope for the Philippine crocodile? Don’t miss this significant and exclusive coverage of Born to be Wild airing on Wednesday after Saksi.
