BORN TO BE WILD
“Blue Hole” and “Venom Extraction”
February 22, 2012

The Venom Extraction and Blue Hole series comes to its exciting finale this Wednesday on Born to be Wild. Kiko Rustia and his team have finally entered the blue hole. More than a hundred feet deep, Kiko is welcomed by darkness and the uncertainty of what creatures they will meet inside. But fear immediately turns into fascination as Kiko sees a curved wall inside the cave. According to experts, the blue hole gives us a glimpse of what our environment looked like during the glacier years. Kiko continues to dive to discover what marine life thrives inside it, and finally complete a map that can be used by researchers who wish to document this first recorded blue hole in the Philippines.
After days in the field with the venomous cobras, Doc Nielsen Donato discovers interesting cobra behavior.  A newly caught cobra regurgitates its prey as a sign of defense. Cobras also have a limited line of vision and can only see objects from certain directions. And finally, Doc Nielsen Donato and his team are able to collect enough venom to deliver to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine where these will be turned into life-saving anti-venin.
