Thailand's elephants and Malapascua's shipwrecks on 'Born to be Wild'

BORN TO BE WILD
“Elephant World” and “Shipwreck Mystery”
Wednesday, April 17

After being acquainted with the baby elephants in Thailand’s largest elephant conservation and rescue center, now Doc Nielsen takes the initiative to really observe and know these giants better.  For a day he will try to live like an elephant caretaker for these animals rescued from abuse.  For Doc Nielsen’s short stint, the job description includes jogging alongside these trunked giants and bathing with them!  Doc also witnesses these abused elephants’ new life as tourist attractions and how the new environment impacts their lives.

After diving to explore the famous M/V Doña Marilyn shipwreck, Mariz and the team still have yet to find three other wrecks reported to have been sunk near Malapascua Island in Cebu.  Cebu served as a Japanese base during the Second World War and its seas figured as a significant war zone.  The milky-white beach of Malapascua, as told by elders, used to be filled with dead soldiers from sunken ships at the height of the war.  Mariz and the team try to search for these reported WWII shipwrecks to know their state and possibly find clues to their real identity.  But this proves to be a very challenging task, with the deepest wreck known as Pioneer lying at a depth of 170 feet.  It would take a highly trained diver to be able to dive at such an extreme depth.Catch “Elephant World” and “Shipwreck Mystery” on Born to be Wild this Wednesday.
