Tonight on 'Born to be Wild': Watch the Philippine sailfin lizard walk on water

BORN TO BE WILD
Find out more about the IBID and KIWET
Part II this Wednesday (September 11), after Saksi!
Last week, Doc Nielsen began his search for the ibid or the endemic sailfin lizard of Panay Islands. This species of lizard is known for its unique ability to walk on water. Doc Nielsen and his team set out to film this fascinating behavior. Only days into their journey, Doc and the team already spot a juvenile ibid near the river, but its motions are too quick for the camera lens. The adult sailfin lizards prove to be even more elusive. Though an endemic species, there are no formal studies yet on the ibid. Doc and his team attempt to open this window of opportunity by capturing footage of the sailfin’s behavior, including its amazing feat of walking on water.
Guest host Mariz Umali continues to investigate how the kiwet or eel of Southeast Asia has reached the farms of Luzon. Farmers complain that these invasive species have caused destruction to their crops. They devised ways to eradicate thekiwet but all their attempts seem futile amidst the animal’s ability to reproduce very rapidly. This week, Mariz enters the rivers of Nueva Vizcaya where the kiwet can also be found. On her journey to solve the mystery of how these kiwet made their way into the northern farms, she discovers that their numbers have already reached hundreds, perhaps thousands!
