This Sunday, "Born to be Wild" celebrates the month of the ocean. Doc Ferds Recio and Doc Nielsen Donato come face to face with the ocean’s big squid and amazing sharks!

In a country where experts say 80% of the sea is overfished, some sanctuaries for marine life remain. In Luzon, there is a place where fishermen harvest big squid that can reach the size of a human child. Doc Nielsen Donato tries to find out what brings the squid to the place and how this part of the ocean can be protected to retain its richness.

Doc Ferds Recio goes back to Apo Reef, one of the Philippines’ protected areas for marine life. It is also one of the world’s best dive sites and has been declared a “no fishing zone.” Here, Doc Ferds encounters a natural pool filled with sharks! The place is strictly off-limits to tourists as it serves as a nursery for sharks.

Recently, a Chinese fishing vessel caught off the shores of Palawan made headlines. Inside the vessel were hundreds of sea turtles that were illegally poached. In Apo Reef, rangers describe similar threats to marine species. And Doc Ferds witnesses the locals’ efforts to protect this piece of marine paradise.
