Philippine eagle and green sea turtle encounter on 'Born to be Wild'

BORN TO BE WILD
Pamarayeg the Philippine Eagle and Star the Green Sea Turtle

The Philippine eagle, a national symbol and one of the world’s most endangered birds, has always been difficult to spot in the wild. With only an estimated 400 pairs left in Philippine forests, these eagles have long been fighting for survival.

Doc Ferds and his team get the chance to see a Philippine Eagle in the wild when they visit Bukidnon. It has been three years since a Philippine eagle was last spotted here, but in March of this year, a local guide chanced upon a wild bird nesting in this site. The forest guides have been protecting the eagle ever since. In this emotional journey to find the vestiges of the king of Philippine forests, Doc Ferds and his team, together with the local group of forest protectors glimpse the eagle called Pamarayeg.

There is a message behind Pamarayeg’s name. In Visayan, Pamarayeg means “a plea.'

Doc Nielsen travels to Danjugan Island in Negros Occidental to see the moray lagoon. Here, moray eels are said to thrive in shallow parts of the water. Unexpectedly, Doc Nielsen and his team encounter a green sea turtle fighting for its life in the shallows instead. The turtle called “Star” is very weak and cannot swim. Doc Nielsen and a local group of marine biologists attempt to save Star.
